The Leeds United player could be completely transformed next season if what he said is true

The Leeds United side are likely to look vastly different to the one that ended last campaign and suffered defeat by Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley.

Joe Rodon returned to Tottenham, while loanees Connor Roberts and Jaidon Anthony returned to their parent clubs. They could be joined by the duo of Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto.

The 49ers have to sell some players to make a profit and help them meet Financial Fairplay rules. Replacements will also be needed at low cost and that’s where Brenden Aaronson comes in.

The 23-year-old spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Union Berlin, but after an indifferent season and a chat with Daniel Farke, the American star has returned to Leeds ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

Aaronson is expected to play a key role next season and spoke to The Athletic about his decision to return to Yorkshire, with some of Aaronson’s comments suggesting he could be a completely different player.

Aaronson could be a completely different player next season

Leeds fans were incredibly critical of Aaronson during his first season at Elland Road. A campaign in which Leeds were relegated and played 40 times in the league and cup, managing one goal and three assists.

Criticism centered around a lack of physicality, which saw Aaronson often run off the ball and left in a heap on the deck. But Aaronson said he has put on weight since being in the Bundesliga.

“Playing in the Bundesliga is super physical, it’s just a blow. The biggest thing I’ve learned this year is to work on my physicality. I got a nutritionist and gained six pounds of muscle mass, which is huge for me.”

The new and improved Aaronson could win over Leeds fans

His lack of physicality won’t be the only issue Aaronson has to overcome next season. The main thing is for Leeds fans to come back next season, being one of the players who jumped ship after relegation.

Like Willy Gnonto, Aaronson will receive plenty of criticism from supporters who put themselves first and chose not to play for Leeds. But Gnonto has won his fans back, even if he leaves this summer.

Aaronson must hit. The new and improved version of the American, which he himself said is stronger by quite a considerable margin, could have all the tools he needs to win over fans.

Stronger and possibly more physical, better able to withstand the force of others, Leeds could be in for a completely different Aaronson next season to the one who struggled in 2022-23.
