Kings Heath Road closed live due to pedestrian hit by lorry

A lorry and a pedestrian were involved in a crash which closed a major road in the area this evening. The crash happened in Alcester Road South, in the Kings Heath area of ​​the city, at around 6pm on Thursday (June 13).


Police issued a warning after the “serious collision” which led to traffic jams in surrounding streets. The road is currently closed in both directions.



West Midlands Police posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, and said: “We are currently at the scene of a serious collision on Alcester Road, #KingsHeath, #Birmingham. We have closed Alcester Road, Woodthorpe Road junction with Sunderton Road, Taylor Road and Maple Croft, please avoid.

National Express West Midlands said its number 50 bus service is being diverted in both directions as a result of the accident. This is a breaking story and updates will follow below…


Open road

Alcester Road South has now reopened in both directions following accident investigation work at the scene.

BirminghamLive has contacted emergency services and is awaiting updates on the pedestrian’s condition following the incident and further information.

Cordon in place at Alcester Road South and Appian Close

A police car is parked across the road in Alcester Road South at the junction with Allian Close, which is a cul-de-sac. The main A435 is closed to through traffic with police tape near the collision site further up the road.

Firefighters intervened on the scene

West Midlands Fire Service confirmed it had three crews at the incident in Alcester Road South, Kings Heath. A spokeswoman for the service said: “We received a call from West Midlands Police at 6.16pm to the incident.

“We sent both crews from Billesley and a crew from Highgate. The incident involved an articulated truck.

“We made the place safe and assisted the ambulance service. I left the site of the facade at 19.11. You will need to contact the police for any further updates.”

Two bus services were diverted following the collision

National Express West Midlands has confirmed that its 50 and 18 bus services are diverted in both directions following the accident in Alcester Road South, Kings Heath.

it said, “Service outage update. The number 50 bus is now diverting in both directions via: Broad Lane, Brandwood Road and Woodthorpe Road”. And “The closure has been extended to Taylor Road. The number 18 bus diverts in both directions via: Haunch Lane, Wheelers Lane, Alcester Road South and Woodthorpe Road”

Crash near The Crown pub

A photo showing the incident online indicates the crash happened near The Crown pub in Alcester Road South, with White Cross Vets on the opposite side of the road. A cordon of fire service tape was in place.

The crash is south of ALcester Road South’s junction with Woodthorpe Road and Taylor Road and north of its junction with Wynfield Gardens.

“The truck collided with a pedestrian”

The crash in Alcester Road South in Kings Heath is said to involve a lorry and a pedestrian. West Midlands Police provided an update on its social media channels and said: “We are currently at the scene of a serious collision on Alcester Road, Kings Heath, Birmingham.”

“We were called just before 6.15pm and closed the following roads so that emergency services could deal with the collision involving a pedestrian and a lorry. If you are traveling this evening please avoid the junction of Alcester Road, Woodthorpe Road with Sunderton Road, Taylor Road. and Maple Croft.”

“Road closed near leisure center”

Traffic information service Inrix has confirmed the closure of the A435 Alcester Road South in Kings Heath this evening. An accident was said to be imminent near Cocks Moor Leisure Centre.

A last-minute update read: “A435 Alcester Southbound road closed in both directions, traffic backed up due to crash between Woodthorpe Road and Broad Lane. The road is closed following an accident near Cocks Moor Woods leisure centre, first reported at around 7pm. Diversion – for bus service 50.”
