Leeds United appear interested in out-of-contract star Callum O’Hare

Leeds United have joined the pursuit of Coventry City attacking midfielder Callum O’Hare, according to TEAMtalk.

Leeds United will need to keep spending to a minimum as they look to pay £190m in transfer fees.

Key assets will leave, and those coming in may have to make cut-price offers, at least until outstanding payments are settled. It means the free transfer and loan markets could be fruitful for the Whites.

Now, with the window opening on Friday, a new target has emerged in reports.

TEAMtalk claim Leeds United are among the teams to have expressed an interest in attacking midfielder Callum O’Hare as he prepares to leave Championship rivals Coventry City later this month.

The Sky Blues made efforts to tie him down to a new deal, but terms remained unsigned.

As such, Leeds have now expressed an interest in the 26-year-old. Play-off winners Southampton and relegated Burnley are also weighing up moves as a fresh start awaits at the O’Hare this summer.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Smart business

In a summer where Leeds United have no choice but to cut costs, O’Hare could be a perfect signing for Daniel Farke and co.

He’s an attacking midfielder, where the Whites will need to bolster him even with Brenden Aaronson back in the mix. At 26, he is entering his prime and looks capable of making the step up to the Premier League after impressing in the Championship.

With Southampton keen, he could be in with a chance of breaking into the top flight. However, a club of Leeds’ stature could very well tempt him to stay in the second tier.

Time will tell whether or not the Whites make a move for O’Hare, but if his deal with Coventry City falls through, expect a flurry of clubs looking to lock him down for a bargain.

A wait for more important business

If Leeds United can clear their outstanding transfer fees, it will be hoped that they will then have a bit more freedom when it comes to spending on new signings.

It might not come until later in the window, so until then, loans and free transfers will be on the radar.

O’Hare is among the strong options to consider, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Farke and co had a handful more in mind. The window is just around the corner and promotion rivals will be looking to act quickly, so the Whites must do everything they can to avoid being left behind.

Loans and freebies could be the perfect way for them to do that early, then turn their attention to more significant signings for further down the line.
