ITV’s Coronation Street Sue Cleaver announces return date to the soap

Coronation Street legend Sue Cleaver has announced she will be returning to television next month.

The actress, who is best known for her role as Eileen Grimshaw on Cove, recently landed her ‘dream’ job. Sue, 60, played Mother Superior in this year’s stage production of the hit show, Sister Act: The Musical.

During an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine in March, Sue spoke about the role and what it means to her Coronation Street character. When asked if she would be returning to the pavement, Sue said: “Yes, absolutely. I have a few months of grace to do this job, then I’ll be back there.”

The actress is now set to return to the ITV soap in July, Mirror Online reports. In a recent interview, she said: “I’ve finished Sister Act, but I miss everyone so much. I had the best time doing that show – I haven’t been on stage in 30 years. I only thought “me”. I’m going to accept that, I’m going to do it.”

“Even though I was scared and even though it was the unknown, I thought, ‘no, this is fabulous. Let’s go for it’ and we did’.

Speaking to OK!, she added: ‘We had the most amazing time. We played in full force everywhere and had standing ovations. I will miss them all tremendously, but you have to finish one thing to start the next.”
