University of Birmingham and IIT-M launch second joint master’s programme

CHENNAI: The University of Birmingham and IIT-M are launching a new joint Master’s program in Sustainable Energy Systems.

“Building on last year’s launch of the partners’ first joint master’s program in data science and artificial intelligence, the new course will help its graduates become specialists in a fast-growing industry leading the fight against climate change. “Students will study in both Chennai and Birmingham before receiving a single degree jointly awarded by both universities. They will also carry out a substantial individual project within internationally recognized research groups, giving them the opportunity to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges.” added.

Speaking about the programme, Adam Tickell, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Birmingham, commented: “The second joint Masters program opens up new and exciting opportunities to study in two countries, benefiting from the expertise and industry links of both IITs Madras as well as of IIT Madras. In addition to studying in India and Birmingham at two leading institutions, successful candidates will gain a global perspective on sustainable energy and experience practical industrial training.

The program offers students the flexibility to complete the program either in Birmingham or IIT-M.

The program will begin with students starting their studies at IIT-M and completing a short industrial placement.

Students then have the option of two pathways, such as studying in the UK for 12 months including a research project in Birmingham and studying in the UK for six months, then returning to IIT-M to complete the program and carry out a research project at IIT-M.
