Chelsea’s latest transfer move could be the first domino for Leeds United to fall this summer

The transfer window is now officially open and Chelsea could inadvertently be the team to spring Leeds United into action.

It is expected to be a busy summer at Elland Road following their failure to win promotion, with plenty of comings and goings on the cards.

Player sales are likely to form the basis of Leeds’ window as they try to ensure they remain in line with their PSR, and funds will need to be raised before June 30.

Paraag Marathe has admitted that there will have to be player trades for the funds to be available for Daniel Farke, which is simply the reality of being a Championship club.

Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter are just some of the names that have been touted for potential exits.

Chelsea move for Crystal Palace star Michael Olise

Chelsea are always one of the busiest teams in Europe when it comes to signings and it would appear that they are closing in on another big money signing.

According to various journalists, including David Ornstein, the Blues are now in contact with Crystal Palace over signing their star right-back Michael Olise.

It would appear that Chelsea are at the front of the queue for the highly sought-after 22-year-old, and with him having a release clause in his contract, it appears to be a matter of when, not if, he leaves.

Olise’s exit would leave a huge hole in Palace’s front line and search for replacements, one of whom could be Leeds star Summerville.

The Mirror reported earlier this month that Palace would return to Summerville if they sold one of Olise or Ebere Eze, which now looks like that could be the case.

Olise’s release clause is said to be somewhere in the region of £60m and so would give them plenty of funds to meet Leeds’ £30m asking price for Summerville.

Olise move could see Leeds transfer dominoes

As previously mentioned, player sales are likely to be the first cause of action at Leeds this summer and the sooner Chelsea get a move in for Olise, the sooner Palace will move for a replacement.

If Summerville is Palace’s number one target, the two clubs will be able to reach a deal quickly. £30m should go a long way in allaying PSR’s concerns given he was bought for just £1.3m in 2020.

More importantly, it would open up some leeway in the market for Leeds to start making signings.

It took until the third week of July for Leeds to make their first addition last summer and that slow start to the season ultimately cost them their top two. They can’t afford to repeat that this time.
