A woman hit by a tram in West Bromwich has been taken to hospital with serious injuries

Trams across West Bromwich were stopped after the incident on Dudley Street at around 2.45pm.

A statement from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “An ambulance, two paramedic officers, a critical care paramedic and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered that a tram and a pedestrian were involved in a collision.

“The pedestrian, a woman, was treated for serious injuries and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for further treatment.”

West Midlands Metro said on X, formerly Twitter, that trams were unable to operate between Black Lake and West Bromwich Central as a result.

Instead, trams ran between Black Lake and Wolverhampton Station and only between West Bromwich Central and Edgbaston Village.

Passengers have been told that tickets will be accepted on the National Express West Midlands 79 bus between Wednesbury and West Bromwich and on West Midlands Railway trains between Wolverhampton and Birmingham.
