School bus driver charged with careless driving after Innisfil crash

Police say the bus entered the intersection when it was unsafe to do so, causing a collision; There were 22 children on board, two of whom suffered minor injuries

South Simcoe Police have charged a school bus driver with careless driving following a two-vehicle crash this morning in Innisfil.

Around 8 a.m. Thursday, June 13, police say officers were called to the intersection of Yonge Street and 6th Street for a collision involving a school bus and a white Nissan.

Police arrived at the scene and found that the collision had occurred in the middle of the intersection, with debris strewn across the roadway.

According to police, the bus was traveling eastbound on the 6 line to cross Yonge Street.

Police say a witness at the scene provided dash cam footage of the collision, which indicated “the school bus entered the intersection when it was unsafe to do so, causing the white Nissan to collide with the rear of the bus,” it said. show in a news story. release.

Police confirmed that 22 children were on the bus at the time of the collision. Two students suffered minor injuries and were evaluated by paramedics and released at the scene.

The driver of the Nissan had minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A 67-year-old Innisfil man has been charged with careless driving.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
