Leeds United attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson has been given a shot on the arm by USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter, who confirmed his Copa America squad on Friday with the 23-year-old included.

Club action takes a back seat for the next month as the European Championships and Copa America begin in June.

For Leeds, there isn’t much involvement, but it exists in both competitions and the rekindled USMNT connection is worth keeping an eye on with Brenden Aaronson.

Confirmed: Brenden Aaronson is part of Gregg Berhalter’s USMNT Copa America squad

The Copa America is looming for the USMNT and with that, Aaronson will be a part and someone Leeds fans should keep an eye on.

It’s been 12 months since he jumped ship from Leeds and the fanbase rightly washed their hands of him as he went on loan to Union Berlin.

However, the 26-man squad confirmation under manager Gregg Berhalter includes the 23-year-old:

Happy to have Aaronson back?

The USMNT and Aaronson will face Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay in the group stage

Aaronson isn’t the only person connected to Leeds taking part in Copa America Group C, as the USMNT also have Uruguay in the group.

Uruguay, of course, are now managed by Leeds legend Marcelo Bielsa, who has already won the admiration of the nation’s fans with his dazzling style of play, most recently putting Mexico to the sword in a 4-0 upset this month:

Aaronson’s U.S. side face Bielsa’s Uruguay on July 2, the final group stage match before the knockout stages.

Aaronson has a huge audition ahead of him for the USMNT

Not only is Aaronson looking to impress Daniel Farke with these international performances, but he is also trying to work his way back into competition for his country.

His form over the past 18 months has seen him somewhat out of favor under Berhalter, so this is a real opportunity for him to show what he can do.

You’d imagine many Leeds fans will still be rooting for a Uruguay win against the USA in that third group stage game.
