Croydon fire destroys camping equipment and destroys building

A fire in Croydon yesterday (May 9) saw 25 firefighters tackle a blaze which destroyed camping equipment.

The fire broke out around 5pm outside the disused building on Park Street in Corydon. A tent and camping equipment in front of the building was destroyed by fire with wood paneling on the ground floor and the overhang from the building damaged.

Locals say the place had a lot of homeless people staying in tents there. The fire was controlled until 17.21, the cause being still undetermined. No one was reported injured in the incident.

A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a disused building on Park Street in Croydon.

“A tent and camping equipment in front of the building were destroyed by fire. The wooden hoarding panels on the ground floor and the fascia above the building were partially damaged by the fire. No injuries were reported.

“The brigade was called at 5pm and the fire was under control by 1721. Crews from Croydon, Woodside and Norbury fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
