The Peabody Bowling League is creating connections across the North Shore

PEABODY, MA — High school students from across the North Shore and those in Peabody’s Post High School special education program formed a lane connection last winter and spring during the First Friday Bowling League.

The North Shore Transition Education Network started the league which included 77 students from 13 towns and cities. Leo’s Metro Bowl hosted the league one Friday a month, where students from each program were arbitrarily assigned to teams, allowing them to make new friends from other schools.

“Not only does it allow students to have fun, but it also allows them to build relationships with other students that they wouldn’t normally interact with,” Peabody Superintendent Josh Vadala said.

The First Friday Bowling League held its year-end bowling banquet on June 7, where all participants received trophies and medals.

Energy Credit Union received the award for Best Sponsor. Maria Cacciola and Kevin Donovan from
Energy Credit Union were there to meet and congratulate the First Friday players.

The “Best Known Citizen Award” was given to Jack Lawless, retired Peabody professor and
Energy Credit Union board member who helped facilitate the sponsorship.

Topping the league were Sharon McGrath of Peabody Public Schools, Heather Driscoll of
Gloucester Public Schools and Sarah Luz from Amesbury Public Schools.
