Statistics Canada reports that wholesale sales rose 2.4% in April

OTTAWA — Statistics Canada says wholesale sales, excluding oil, oil products and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseeds and grains, rose 2.4 per cent to $83.3 billion in April.

The overall increase came as sales rose in five of the seven subsectors.

The automotive and automotive parts and accessories subsector rose 10.2 percent to $14.6 billion in April, the highest level since November 2023, while the automotive industry group gained 12.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the miscellaneous subsector rose 5.1 percent to $10.6 billion in April as sales increased in five of the seven industry groups included in the category, with agricultural supplies up 6.9 percent.

In volume terms, wholesale sales rose 2.0% in April.

Statistics Canada began including oilseeds and grains, as well as the oil and oil products subsector as part of wholesale trade last year, but excludes the data from the monthly analysis until there is sufficient historical data.
