HALLDAY’S WORDS | News | City of Bradford

Brad Halliday sat down and spoke to the club’s media after extending his stay at the University of Bradford Stadium by signing an initial two-year deal that will keep him at Valley Parade until at least the summer of 2026.

Q: Brad, two year deal here at Bradford University Stadium. How excited are you to do this?

B: Yeah, I think, it’s been in the conversation since the end of the season, and kind of resolve it pretty quickly. It’s cute. And to do it before, obviously, the beginning of the pre-season, the beginning of the next season.

Q: Was it a good idea to stay?

B: Yes, definitely. I think obviously my friends, my family and obviously all the fans know how much I love it here and that’s why I wanted to stay. And obviously it’s all settled now and we have to look forward to the next couple of years and hopefully achieve some good things together.

Q: It takes you to at least four years with the club. Do you really have to like it here?

B: Yeah no I think obviously that was a big reason why I signed obviously two years ago I’m joining the club and as you say I’ve extended another two years. So, obviously, I’m very excited to have done that.

Q: You’ve grown more and more this past year under Graham. How did it have a big influence on your decision?

B: Yeah, I think obviously a lot of the discussions we had were me and the manager and when he came in last season he was obviously brilliant with me and the team, I think he can get better like, a player below him. So again, that’s obviously another massive reason why I decided to stay and extend.

Q: Why do you think you got off to a good start last season?

B: Probably just, the relationship with the manager and the license he’s given me, obviously, to go and like the attack and kind of the press and be, energetic as I am.

Q: I saw you on the other end of the field a lot more last season. Is that something you’ve been working on?

B: Yes, I think it’s something I need to get better at. I think it’s something we’ll work on during pre-season and it’s something I might get better at as the season goes on and maybe add a few goals hopefully. I know I have a few until the end of the season but like I said it all depends on the manager giving me the freedom to go and get in the box and get on the end of things.

Q: I saw you with six awards at the end-of-season dinner a few months ago back, from your colleagues and from the fans. How important it is to get this recognition from everyone?

B: Yes, I would have preferred the promotion, obviously, rather than the individual part kind. Obviously I’m delighted to get them, but I said it at the end of last season, I’d trade them all in a heartbeat for a team award, which obviously that’s kind of the goal from now on . So, like I say, it was a really proud moment for me last season to kind of finish the season, ah, strong. But then again, it was probably an underachievement.

Q: How much were the fans a factor in your decision as well?

B: Yeah, like I said, that’s probably one reason I like it here so much. All the fans have been brilliant since I came in and, as I say, I’ve really enjoyed my two years. So, like you said, it was a no-brainer to stay and yeah, I’m really looking forward to the next couple of years now.

Q: Over 13,600 memberships sold so far. You have a final message for these supporters we hope to enjoy two successful years together?

B: Yes, no, definitely. I think obviously I want to thank them for obviously spending the money to come watch us. I know it’s been tough at times, but hopefully in the next few years there will be more positives, there will still be negatives, obviously that comes with the game, but hopefully we can make it a successful one. and we need them to help us in some way on this journey.
