Enzo Maresca addresses power struggle issue with Leicester City manager ready for talks

Enzo Maresca’s row with the Leicester City hierarchy is not a battle for greater control over backroom matters, the manager has insisted.

An hour after winning City’s league title, Maresca asked to speak to the club’s decision-makers about things he “didn’t like”. His two main concerns were reportedly with the failure to sign Stefano Sensi from Inter Milan in January and what it says about City’s transfer dealings, as well as the lack of communication and explanation regarding the club’s financial problems, the alleged violations could mean Maresca’s team. may be hit with a points deduction on their return to the Premier League.

For Maresca to go public with his desire to hold talks appeared to be a power move, knowing he was in a strong position to make demands after leading City back to the top flight as champions. But speaking just before the final game of the season against Blackburn, Maresca sought to play down his intentions and insisted he is not looking for a bigger say in how the club is run.

“No, no, I’m not asking for more control,” Maresca said. “Absolutely not. I’m just asking to be able to do the job I’m paid to do. Nothing more than that.

“It’s not even a problem. There are just things that happen that I didn’t like during the season. Wait and clarify. It’s like when you are arguing and arguing with your wife, sit down and try to clarify. It’s exactly the same.”

Maresca plans to hold these talks with the club and begin planning for the new season in a few weeks. After a three-day break in Monte Carlo, courtesy of the president, he is now off with his family for a well-deserved holiday.
