A couple are to host a ‘night of music’ at Sutton United Football Club

A couple from Sutton are hosting a ‘night full of music’ in memory of their late parents.

Catherine Rodgers and her fiancé Luke Collins are hosting a music event called Music To Mend Hearts at Sutton United Football Club on July 6.

Catherine, 40, described the upcoming event as a “night full of music” with live acts and family entertainment.

A ticket costs £10 and all proceeds will go to the British Heart Foundation and Asthma and Lung UK.

Catherine told Your Local Guardian: ‘It’s just a night of awareness for both charities in memory of my dad who died 15 years ago and Luke’s mum who I found dead on New Year’s Day last year”.

Catherine added: “It is in their memory.

“My dad had a cardiac arrest at Sheffield station, so this is the British Heart Foundation’s part.

“And Luke’s mother had COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) but her heart eventually gave out.”

Catherine explained that COPD don’t have their own charity, which is why they do Asthma and Lung UK.

Catherine and Luke have been planning this event since March and Catherine said: “We chose Sutton United because the hall is really beautiful and they have a great stage that we can use.

“We hosted this event a few years ago in Essex when we did the London Marathon and it was very popular and we hope it will have the same interest here in Sutton.”

Catherine said she and Luke write and produce music and have a few tracks on Spotify.

Catherine said: “We have some really talented friends musically so we have a couple of DJs, we have live shows in a variety of different types of music.”

Catherine said she approached local businesses and they donated raffle prizes for the one they would hold there.

Raffle prizes will include a voucher to Harvester, a family pass to David Lloyd, flowers, a bottle of wine, whiskey set, all donated from local businesses as this is a charity event.

The event is familiar, starting at 18.00 and ending at 23.30.
