Before tonight I wouldn’t have considered myself a Swiftie, but after her show in Liverpool, I’m completely obsessed

Don’t hate me, but before tonight, I wouldn’t have called myself a Swiftie…

That being said, while I’m never in a rush to put Taylor Swift’s catalog of hits on my playlist, I can appreciate an insanely talented woman when I see one. Tonight, at Taylor’s second show of the Eras Tour in Liverpool, we got an education in why she’s known as the princess of pop.

For an impressive three-and-a-half hours, I was treated to worms from every era of Taylor Swift and was able to witness her artistic evolution from folklore to the Department of Tortured Poets. I’m obsessed, I guess that makes me a Swiftie now?

After delighting the crowd with ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’, Taylor took a break to address the crowd: ‘I ended up touring so much and I used to be in this pattern where I put out an album and then I’d do a tour called whatever that album was called.

“The Red Tour, the 1989 tour, the Speak Now tour… and I had so many amazing memories. The only regret I have is that we should have played Liverpool in all those tournaments.

“Yeah… that’s on me, I won’t make that mistake in the future, I can tell you that.”

From a stage standpoint, it’s no surprise that the Eras Tour is the most profitable tour in music history, as no expense was spared. Fans who have already seen the concert film, recorded during the tour in Los Angeles, will recognize the flame towers during Bad Blood, the folk lodge and Reputation’s snake imagery.

But in real life, visual effects take production to a whole new level. Taylor’s army of devoted fans also adds another element to the show.

Looking directly at them made me almost emotional seeing them witness their idol and have some sort of spiritual awakening. I have to admit, when I saw the little girl take the 22 hat, it made me cry.

Being from Liverpool, I know Beatlemania when I see it. Teenage girls crying, fathers and boyfriends looking on slightly worried but excited – the crowd was a mix of energy.

It was easy for me to get on board and embrace the excitement – even though I’m not a Swiftie myself. Caught up in the excitement, I couldn’t help but think how brilliant it would be if Liverpool could host such megastars more often…

I am grateful to have experienced Taylor’s amazing show, it is definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity. But I’m also grateful that the world-famous star chose Liverpool, and even more grateful that our city has done us proud.

Scrolling through social media last night I saw a post from an American fan that Liverpool was the fastest city they had ever been to. With a banner along the Grade I listed St George’s Hall, a full Taylor Town route with city installations and murals galore – Liverpool pulled out all the stops and proved exactly how to stand out on a global scale. .with a little help from Taylor Swift.
