Former Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati awarded MBE in King’s Birthday Honors

TV star Shobna Gulati has been awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honors list.

Actress and presenter Gulati, 57, has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to the cultural industries.

Born in Oldham, Lancashire in 1966, Gulati is best known for her roles as Sunita in the ITV series Coronation Street and Anita in the BBC comedy series Dinnerladies.

His theater credits include the international tour of Mamma Mia! in 2015, the UK touring production of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie in 2018 and Richard II at The Globe in 2019.

She has also appeared on the ITV current affairs program Loose Women as a panellist.

Singer Rebecca Ferguson was also awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours. The Liverpool-born artist, who was runner-up on ITV’s X Factor in 2010, is being honored for services to the music industry.

The 37-year-old, who grew up in Huyton, Woolton and Anfield, originally studied to be a legal secretary before making a name for herself in the singing competition, pipping One Direction to second place, while Matt Cardle was named champion.

While Graeme Souness received a CBE in the King’s Day honors list after his “life-changing” charity work.

The 71-year-old enjoyed spells as a player and manager at Anfield, winning the English Premier League five times and the European Cup three times, adding an FA Cup to his tally during his time in the dugout.

Souness was recognized for his services and support to charity after his efforts to raise awareness of epidermolysis bullosa (EB). The Scot is vice-chairman of DEBRA UK, which calls itself ‘The Butterfly Skin Charity’ and has raised more than £1m for the charity after taking on the challenge to swim 30 miles of the English Channel.
