Enfield will acquire acreage on prison property to boost recreation

ENFIELD, CT — In the closing hours of the 2024 legislative session Wednesday night, State Representative Carol Hall cast her vote in support of a land conveyance to the city of Enfield.

The bill, SB-460, An Act to Convey a Parcel of Land to the Town of Enfield, would transfer 15.4 acres from Shaker Road to the town so it could be used for additional sports and recreation opportunities. It was unanimously approved by a vote of 19-0 by the Government Administration and the Electoral Commission.

The cost of the land will be equal to the fair market value of the property, determined by the average of the valuations of two independent appraisers selected by the commissioner of corrections, plus the administrative costs of making such a transfer, according to the bill.

Beginning at a point near the southwest access road to the Carl Robinson Correctional Facility, the lot is located directly across from the Shaker Recreation Complex.

“I am pleased to announce that the House and Senate have both voted in favor of conveyancing the property across from our soccer fields, which will allow the city to expand its commitment to sports and recreation,” Hall said in a written . statement.
