Mr Cellan-Jones, author of Ruskin Park: Sylvia, Me and The BBC, tells the story of the love affair between his parents, both BBC employees – which he only learned about after his mother’s death – and how it was affected by the forces of respectability and postwar prejudices. It also sheds light on Mr Cellan-Jones’ isolated childhood, as he and his brother were brought up alone by a mother who also worked full-time.

Her next book, Sophie from Romania: A Year of Hope and Love with a Rescue Dog, is out in October 2024.
