‘Not Vincent Kompany’ – Leicester star must prove his words are not empty as confidence stands out

Leicester City star Wout Faes needs to take his performances to heart at Euro 2024 after his pre-tournament comments.

At least that’s what journalists Hein Vanhaezebrouck and Peter Vandenbempt say, who urged the man from Leicester to prove himself on the international stage in Germany.

Faes enjoyed a strong season with Leicester after a difficult first campaign with the Foxes which saw them relegated from the Premier League.

He has been a key player in the Championship this season as they returned to the top flight at the first time of asking and has found himself playing a vital role for Belgium as well. with Faes just one of two players to play in all 14 games under him.

This is set to continue at Euro 2024, where the Leicester star will start for the duration of Belgium’s participation in the tournament in Germany.

He has talked about the importance of the tournament to himself for some time, and both Vanhaezebrouck and Vandenbempt have urged him to back up those words with action on the field.

“He’s not Vincent Kompany and he never will be, but he’s very well regarded. It may sound negative, but it doesn’t have to be,” he said.

“Tedesco has the right way to deal with him. He made Faes important and you can see it: he feels good and always plays.”

“After not playing for almost two months, Vertonghen will not be able to join the team. I’ve also heard that he’s definitely not ready to play yet,” Vandenbempt added.

“And then Faes, who made a good and eloquent impression during his press conference, will play there. But the tournament will have to show if he can talk to the good teams as well.”
