Newquay is crowned the UK’s ‘best’ holiday destination

A Cornish coastal town has been named as the UK’s top holiday destination, according to new research. Analyzing data on hotels, activities, local transport, weather and general popularity, a new list of the UK’s ‘best’ places to stay in 2024 has been published.

Coming in with near-perfect marks, Newquay was crowned first with a score of 9.72 out of 10. Scarborough came second and Canterbury third.

Go Outdoors conducted the research using resources such as TripAdvisor, Office of National Statistics, Instagram, TikTok, Country Living, Booking.com and Google.

Go Outdoors says: “Situated on the north coast of Cornwall, the town is well known for its sandy beaches, with the Atlantic Ocean lapping at its shores. Popular with beachgoers, Newquay has 27.2 activities per km2 and an average annual temperature. of 11.4 degrees C, which rises to 16 degrees C on average during the summer.

“Visitors can enjoy attractions such as Newquay Zoo and the Lane Theater and countless dog-friendly beaches including Fistral Beach and Holywell Bay Beach. Popular on social media, there are 1,510 posts on Instagram and TikTok combined under the hashtags #newquaystaycation and #newquayholiday.

“Social media users are primarily sharing images of Newquay’s gorgeous beaches and coastline. Nearly three-quarters (74.7 percent) of hotels are rated four out of five and above by users, including the White House Hotel and Lewinnick Lodge, which offer superb ocean views. .”

Cornwall was also named the best camping holiday destination. Go Outdoors added: “Known for its beautiful beaches and coastline, it’s perhaps no surprise that Cornwall comes top of the UK for camping holidays, scoring an outstanding 9.98 out of 10. The county has the largest range of pitches at 273, including the Old Stables Campsite, which offers nearby access to Godrevy Beach, electrical outlets and showers.

“Furthermore, the average price for two nights in an average tent with two adults and two children in July is an affordable £57.25. There are 13 nature and wildlife areas across 1,000 km2 for the family to explore, including the Lost Gardens of Heligan— Europe’s largest garden restoration project Of the 273 campsites, over a third (35.2%) have children’s playgrounds including East Crinnis Holiday Park and Wooda Farm.
