Bristol Casino reports second highest-grossing month since opening

BRISTOL, Va. — Bristol Casino, the future home of the Hard Rock, just posted its second-highest month for adjusted gaming revenue since opening.

For the month of May, the Bristol temporary casino reported $12.4 million in adjusted gaming revenue — wagers minus winnings — from 891 slot machines and $3.05 million from table games, for a total of $15.46 million, according to a new report from the Virginia Lottery. , which oversees casino gaming in the Commonwealth.

Slots revenue was about $1 million above the casino’s reported monthly average of $11.4 million for the first four months of 2024, lottery figures show.

Table game revenue rose about 45 percent, or about $1.4 million more, compared to the casino’s monthly average of $2.09 million in the first four months of 2024.

Its biggest month was March, when Bristol Casino reported adjusted total gaming revenue of $16.27 million.

The casino paid out more than $31.66 million in jackpots to its guests through the first quarter of 2024, according to a May 1 report to the Virginia Lottery Board. Since opening in July 2022, that figure has been over $203.93 million.

Statewide, the three Virginia casinos reported total adjusted gaming revenue of $62.74 million. Individually, Rivers Casino Portsmouth reported $26.99 million in total AGR, with approximately $18.6 million from slots and $8.4 million from table games.

Caesars Virginia Temporary Casino in Danville reported total revenue of $20.28 million, including $14.71 million from slots and $5.57 million from table games.

The state received nearly $11.3 million in gambling tax revenue in May.

Bristol generated $2.78 million in tax revenue from Virginia, which was also the second-highest month since opening in July 2022, lottery figures show.

That includes more than $927,700 — also the second-highest month since opening — that will be split equally among 14 communities in Southwest Virginia.

The Bristol casino paid out nearly $13 million in gambling tax revenue in the first five months of this year and more than $55 million since the property opened nearly two years ago.

Portsmouth generated $4.85 million in gambling taxes during the month of May, with the City of Portsmouth retaining $1.6 million. Danville’s casino generated $3.65 million, with the host city keeping $1.21 million, lottery figures show.
