A 46-year-old man has died and several others have been injured after a car plowed into a crowd of people during the violence in Sheffield.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a 55-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder, South Yorkshire Police said.

Officers were called to College Close in the Burngreave area of ​​the city “following reports of violence and disorder”.

“While the call was in progress, a car collided with a group of people,” the force added

The incident took place on Wednesday, around 2:00 p.m.

The man who lost his life died at the scene and his relatives are being supported by officers.

One of the injured people is in a serious condition in the hospital.

Both suspects are in custody.

The summit remained closed until Thursday, with police patrolling the surrounding streets.

Residents in the area said they were shocked by the incident but did not know what happened – only a few police cars were there on Wednesday afternoon and one car was later taken by a trailer.

DCI Andrew Knowles, senior investigating officer, said there was a large police cordon and officers were “carrying out CCTV and house-to-house enquiries”.

“We will be patrolling throughout the night to provide reassurance and speak to anyone who may have information or is concerned,” he added.

Anyone with information, CCTV, ringer or dash cam footage that could help the investigation is asked to contact police or Crimestoppers.
