Marco Rus becomes Scott Brown’s fifth summer signing as Ayr United snap up Coventry City midfielder

Ayr new boy Marco Rus insists he is ready to prove Ayr’s long-term pursuit of his signature has been worthwhile.

The 21-year-old Romanian midfielder, who can play centrally or out wide on either wing, has penned a two-year deal to become Scott Brown’s fifth summer signing after agreeing to move north from at Coventry City in England. And Rus told how Ayr’s persistence in winning his signature proved a big draw in making the jump to Scotland.

He told him Ayrshire Post: “There was interest from the club in January, which didn’t work out then, but I’m delighted to have sorted things out now. If you’re talking to any player, having the knowledge that a club really wants you is a big factor. and I- gave that confidence to make the move this summer.

“Listening to the manager, his ambition is obvious and where he wants to take the club is very exciting. He’s a huge name in the game and already makes a very strong team that I’m excited to be a part of. “

Born in Romania, Rus moved to England at the age of nine before coming through Yeovil Town’s youth academy, leading to a major move to Premier League outfit Southampton. Rus would then move to Coventry, where he spent a number of loan spells in the English non-leagues honing his craft – and most recently headed for a spell back in his native country with Cluj University.

He said: “I’ve already experienced quite a bit, but I felt it was important to challenge myself with my next move. I had a few options to stay in the south or abroad, but I felt like I needed something a little different and when we spoke. the manager made me feel really wanted.

“It’s important for my career to have a permanent home where I can develop as a player and the next two years give me that stability. The league will be very tight this year with no clear favorite and with the club ambitious to progress, it feels as a very good time to come here.”
