Contrary to popular opinion, the country and western songwriting tradition is still alive and well in Canada.

While it may be overshadowed by mainstream pop-country, genuine songwriters and troubadours continue to thrive in North America, playing in intimate dive bars and honky tonks where they can really connect with audiences.

Fishbum Records is proud to announce the second showcase of country and western songwriters to be held at The Rec Room in Barrie, Ontario on July 6, 2024.

This year’s showcase will present:

Falcon Jane (Shelburne, Ont.)
Falcon Jane, fronted by singer-songwriter Sara May, fuses indie pop with elements of folk and rock to create a dreamy, atmospheric sound. Known for their debut album “Feelin’ Freaky”, Falcon Jane continue to captivate audiences with their introspective music. Currently living in rural Ontario, Sara May’s love of traditional country music shines through in their latest work, including the single “I Own the Road,” a heartfelt song that embodies the classic long-haul trucker archetype.

Fraser Wayne (Springwater, Ont.) – with Darryl Hannah on pedal steel
Fraser Wayne’s journey began in rural Ontario and evolved through his experiences in Montreal’s vibrant music scene. With influences ranging from Americana soundtracks to spaghetti westerns, Fraser’s music is characterized by honest songwriting and imaginative storytelling. Back in his hometown of Springwater, Fraser’s prolific output includes three LPs and numerous singles, all released on his own label, Fishbum Records. His haunting, gothic take on the country and western will leave a lasting impression.

Madison Mueller (Barrie, Ont.) – solo
Madison Mueller’s unique sound and style has earned her a dedicated following online and in her hometown of Barrie. Active in the local music scene, Madison has taught piano and voice, performed at various venues, and taught downtown. Her commitment to her community earned her the Emerging Artist Award at the 2019 Barrie Arts Awards. Madison’s lively personality and experimental approach to songwriting make her an artist to watch.
