All roads closed for this weekend’s London to Brighton cycle race

Thousands of cyclists will descend on the seafront as the London to Brighton Cycle Race returns to the city.

The British Heart Foundation’s charity ride is back this year as cyclists will once again tackle the ride over Ditchling Beacon and the South Downs.

Multiple road closures will be in place across the county and more than 10,000 will be completed Sunday evening in Madeira Drive.

Road closures in Sussex

  • B2028 from Dukes Head to Turners Hill closed southbound between 6am and 4pm.

  • Turners Hill Road to North Street closed with access via Lion Lane between 6am and 4pm.

  • North Street from Turners Hill closed southbound between 6am and 4.30pm B2028 from Turners Hill to Ardingly closed southbound between 6am and 5pm.

  • B2028 from Ardingly to Summerfield Lane closed southbound between 6am and 5pm.

  • Oathall and Hazelgrove Road from Oathall Avenue to the Sussex Square roundabout, closed southbound between 6am and 5pm.

  • The B2112 from Rocky Lane to Folders Lane closed southbound between 6am and 5.30pm.

  • B2112 Common Lane from Folders Lane to Ditchling closed southbound between 6am and 7pm.

  • Northend Lane to Beacon Road closed southbound between 6am and 7pm.

  • Beacon Road over Ditchling Beacon to Coldean Lane closed 6am to 7pm.

Road closures in Brighton

  • Coldean Lane, closed between 7am and 9pm.

  • Coldean Lane at its junction with Ditchling Road to its junction with Forest Road, closed between 7am and 9pm.

  • Coldean Lane, southbound closed at the Forest Track junction with the Park Road junction between 7am and 9pm.

  • Union Road to the Aquarium Roundabout was closed southbound between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

  • Southover Street to the junction with Lewes Road, closed between 7am and 9pm.

  • Morley Street at the junction with Grand Parade was closed between 7am and 9pm.

  • Kingswood Street at the junction with Grand Parade was closed from 7am to 9pm.

  • Edward Street at the junction with Grand Parade was closed from 7am to 9pm.

Madeira Drive will also be closed from Friday morning until midnight on Monday 17 June.

The London to Brighton Bike Race started in 1976 and has grown to include thousands of riders every year.

The cycle raises funds for the British Heart Foundation’s research work to tackle heart attacks, strokes and other cardiovascular conditions.
