Former Coventry City, Shrewsbury Town, Newport County AFC and Northampton Town defender Ryan Haynes joins Cheltenham

Cheltenham Town have signed left back Ryan Haynes following his departure from Northampton Town.

The 28-year-old becomes the club’s third new signing of the summer, following Harry Pell and Scot Bennett.

Haynes played under new Robins boss Michael Flynn during a spell at Newport County AFC.

“I’m excited to get it done,” Haynes said. “When I first heard about the movement it was one I really wanted to follow and now I can’t wait to get started.

“I really enjoyed my time at Northampton but sometimes you have to move on. I’m here now and can’t wait to work with the gaffer and the staff again.

“The message is very clear. We’d like to be challenging at the top of the table and that’s why I’m here.”

Northampton-born Haynes has nearly 300 career appearances to his name.
