Motorists warned as Narborough Road braces for weeks of disruption

Motorists traveling along the Narborough Road are facing weeks of disruption from the end of the month. Closures, bus diversions and stopping restrictions are all on the cards for the stretch of the busy route into the city between its junctions with Kingsway and Fosse Park Avenue.

The restrictions are due to work by the National Grid which is undertaking an “electricity network consolidation scheme” in the area. They are necessary for public safety, highways authority Leicestershire County Council said.

The first closure will be in effect from 8pm on Friday 8 June until 6am on Monday 1 July. This will be a “full closure” between the Hazel Drive and Kingsway junctions. The same stretch will close again from 8pm on Friday 5 July until 6am on Monday 7 July.

A one-way closure is then planned for the southbound side, heading towards Fosse Park, of the route between Hazel Drive and the Narborough Road South link. It will be in play from 8pm on Friday 12th July until 6am on Monday 15th July. It will be repeated next weekend between the same times on Friday 19th July and Monday 22nd July.

Access to the ASDA car park on Narborough Road South Service Road will be blocked between 8pm on Friday 26 July and Monday 29 July. Waiting and loading restrictions will be in place between Kingsway and Hazel Drive between Friday 28 June and Friday 12 July.

Various bus lane closures are planned between Monday 22 July and Tuesday 13 August. Detours will be signaled for drivers during the closures.
