New plans for shisha lounge, restaurant and cocktail bar at former discount store

A planning application to convert the former Ex-Catalogue Direct store in Bearwood into a new hookah restaurant and cocktail bar has been submitted to Sandwell Council by Deniz Akgul.

The plans promise a hookah bar and restaurant on the ground and first floors, with a cocktail bar on the second floor, as well as new roof terraces along Anderson Road – which was previously Home Zone wallpaper and paint discount store.

The proposed opening hours are from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm Monday to Friday and Sunday and from 8:00 am to 11:30 pm every Saturday.

A statement included in the application said: “This proposal suggests the conversion of an existing structure into two distinct areas: a cocktail bar with entertainment spaces and a combination restaurant and shisha bar.

“The plan includes changes to the facade, interior and roof to enhance aesthetics and functionality, creating a unique and sophisticated destination for dining, entertainment and leisure.”

According to the planning application, the full plans include “proposed partial change of use to the ground floor shisha bar/bar, first floor restaurant/bar with rear extension and alterations to the first floor roof to create a roof terrace for an outdoor area. the area with the railing.” The plan goes on to include a “cocktail bar with entertainment space on the second floor, with roof extensions, dormer windows, roof terrace with railings and window alterations on the ground floor and first floor.”

The new hookah bar, restaurant and cocktail bar will sit across the road from the soon-to-be-built bedsits on Bearwood Road. Last year Sandwell Council approved the planning application to convert part of the ground floor and first and second floors at 576-578 Bearwood Road and build a two-storey rear extension to accommodate 19 beds.

Also this week, Bearwood entertainment venue Windsor complex was given permission to open until the early hours.

The Windsor complex in Bearwood High Street, which is home to an Indian grill, bowling alley and games room, can now open until 3.30am every day after plans were given the seal of approval by the council’s licensing committee Sandwell Council.

Objections were raised before the June 11 licensing hearing by several neighbors who said their lives had been affected by loud noise and drunken and rowdy behavior coming from the Bearwood site.

A number of residents in neighboring Dunsford Road said the problems they face will only be made worse by the venue opening until the early hours.
