Watch: The Dizzy Club celebrate 30th anniversary with special show in Sheffield

A performance by The Dizzy Club in Sheffield city center drew crowds on a sunny Bank Holiday Monday.

The Sheffield-based band play traditional jazz and have played “over 3,000” festivals, according to their website.

Band members John Naylor, Shez Sheridan, Mike Fleming, Ryan Taylor and John Watterson played several shows in Sheffield to celebrate their longevity.

Their last performance of this anniversary tour took place on Monday, May 10, in Leopold Square.

The event was free, with Dizzies fans filling much of the area, but many stumbled upon the gig by accident.

John Naylor, guitarist and vocalist, said: “It’s a privilege to play in the city center in front of such wonderful people.”

“This is the last of our little holiday tour until June and the acoustics in the square made this gig a really special one.”

The jazz outfit performed under a gazebo in front of Zizzi, with space in the plaza in front of them open as a makeshift dance floor.

Spectators of all ages took to the floor to show off their moves, some with more flair than others.

One couple took the spotlight with full-on dance routines, to the delight of onlookers and customers at the surrounding Leopold Square restaurants.

It wasn’t just an event for older dance lovers, as the kids found themselves loving the attention of several hundred eyes on their moves.

One lady sitting on a wall opposite the performing band even let her pug roam the groove area, much to the surprise of the jiggers in attendance.

Infamous Dizzies songs ‘Mack The Knife’, ‘I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm’ and ‘Oh My’ were all played during the festivities.

The atmosphere was rocking for the show that lasted from 14:00 to 16:30, the end of the last song was received with loud applause.

The next gigs will see Dizzies return to Leopold Square on July 14 for another free show, alongside shows that can now be bought from their website.
