The Leicester City star wants to show the club what they were missing before the transfer decision

Leicester City left-back Victor Kristiansen will be hoping to show his improvement on the big stage on Sunday as Denmark take on Slovenia in their Euro 2024 opener.

Kristiansen is a candidate to start for the Danes at left-back as they look to start the Euros in style. It will be City’s first involvement at the tournament with Jannik Vestergaard expected to start for Denmark and Mads Hermansen on the bench.

For City supporters, the game offers a chance to see Kristiansen in action ahead of his return to the club this summer. The 21-year-old spent last campaign on loan at Bologna in Italy, helping them qualify for the Champions League.

Despite this success, Bologna opted not to take up the buyout option in Kristiansen’s loan deal for the time being, putting his future up in the air. The left-back has already said that he and City will find what’s best for him after the tournament in Germany, but there are fans keen for him to be given another chance now that Enzo Maresca has left.

Kristiansen wanted to leave to play as a more traditional full-back, moving up and down the flank, rather than the hybrid role Maresca envisioned for him, where he would drop into a back three when City were in possession. A new manager could mean Kristiansen has a role again and he believes he will return to City a better player.

“I learned to play Italian football,” he told Danish media. “He’s a bit more on the handbrake and he’s more careful than in the Premier League. Thiago Motta (now ex-Bologna coach) taught me to be more fluid in the structures of play than I was used to at FC Copenhagen and Leicester.
