Manchester United among the clubs surrounding star Simons after a successful loan spell in the Bundesliga

Manchester United are among many top teams to have contacted Paris Saint-Germain over the potential signing of Xavi Simons.

This is according to French newspaper L’Equipe and it is not the first time the Dutch youth international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Simons has been linked with most of Europe’s biggest clubs in recent months after impressing on loan at RB Leipzig and it remains to be seen what his future holds in Paris.

Barcelona have been rumored to be interested in the player, who they had in his youth, so a reunion has been tipped by several publications. However, journalist Matteo Moretto claims (H/t Sport.fr) that a potential deal for Simons at Barca this summer has cooled as new coach Hansi Flick does not want to prioritize the Dutch striker.

Simons scored 10 goals and provided 15 assists in 43 games for the Bundesliga side.

The report suggests that PSG are likely to prefer a loan move over a permanent one, due to a significant portion of the transfer fee going to his former club PSV Eindhoven if he is sold before 2025.

Simons will decide his future after Euro 2024.

Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has stressed that his side will rely on Simons against Poland when they begin their Euro 2024 campaign.

Koeman said: “He is one of the biggest talents we have now in Holland. “He played in many games as a starter at a young age. He is growing, as a young player there are always ups and downs, especially in the national team.

“We are sure he will perform very well in the European Cup.”

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk expects more from Simons, adding: “He can give more than he is doing now. He can do much better.

“It’s going to be a big tournament for him and I really believe in him.”

The Netherlands will face France and Austria after their first group game against Poland.
