A64 closed live as serious crash causes huge delays near York

Motorists traveling along the A64 near York are facing delays this evening following a serious crash.

The A64 is closed in both directions between the A1237 (York) and the B1248 (Malton) following the crash. A National Highways spokesman urged the public to find alternative routes if possible as delays continue to increase.




Emergency services, including North Yorkshire Police, are also at the scene.

The circumstances of the impact are currently unknown. It is also unclear when the road will reopen. YorkshireLive has contacted North Yorkshire Police for further information.

The A64 remains closed

The A64 near York remains closed in both directions following a serious crash this evening.

Accident investigation work is currently ongoing.

Our travel partner Inrix reports: “The A64 in both directions has been closed for accident investigation works from the Crambe (Whitwell) slip to the Castle Howard (Barton Hill) turn off. In progress since earlier this evening. Diversion – for more bus services.”

A National Highways spokesman said: “The A64 in North Yorkshire is closed in both directions between the A1237 (York) and the B1248 (Malton) due to a serious collision. Emergency services including North Yorkshire Police are in attendance.

“Recoveries are at the scene and the vehicles involved are being removed. There was also an oil spill on the roadway that will be assessed and treated before the roadway reopens.

“Traffic is diverted through local routes. If this closure impacts your planned route, please allow additional travel time. Plan ahead, you may want to reroute or even delay your trip.”

The road is currently closed in both directions between the A1237 (York) and the B1248 (Malton).
