Leicester join Aston Villa in race to sign £25m ‘exciting’ Champions League midfielder

Leicester have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign the ‘exciting’ Champions League midfielder, valued at £25million, according to a recent report.

The Foxes are currently without a manager following the departure of Enzo Maresca to Chelsea earlier this month, however, they are still being linked with a number of players ahead of their return to the Premier League.

It looks like the new man in the dugout will be either Graham Potter or Carlos Coberan, with the club hoping to appoint their new boss before the start of pre-season.

While that process plays out, head of recruitment Martyn Glover has been hard at work identifying targets behind the scenes and it has just emerged that Leicester have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign the highly-rated midfielder.

Leicester City join Aston Villa in the race to sign Matteo Guendouzi

According to Il Messaggero via The Standard, Premier League new boys Leicester City are showing interest in Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

The former Arsenal man has been made available this summer by the Serie A side, who are hoping to receive £25m for his signature.

Aston Villa and Newcastle were also chasing the ‘thrilling’ number eight, providing stiff competition for the East Midlanders.

Villa are expected to be favourites, as Unai Emery already has a relationship with Guendouzi after signing him for Arsenal.

Leicester City probably can’t spend until July

Leicester will miss out on a number of targets as they are unlikely to be able to spend money until the end of the financial year later this month.

They are on the verge of breaking profit and sustainability regulations, so they need to stay shrewd in their spending.

As such, it seems highly doubtful that they would spend £25m on Guendouzi’s signature if he wasn’t still available in July.
