Devon and Cornwall Police alcohol warning ahead of Euro 2024

A police spokesman added: “Everyone is always excited to follow the progress of the national team and many will be making plans to watch the matches with friends and family.

He added: “However, police are clear that alcohol is no excuse for bad behaviour, win, lose or draw.

“Alcohol can and will change people’s behavior.

“With emotions running high, things can easily go from friendly banter to something more aggressive.”

The statement also warned against drink-driving, stressing the danger of being over the limit the next morning.

“Many still don’t realize how long it takes for alcohol to leave the body.

“A morning coffee is not the answer, the only solution is time.

“So please take the time to think about how you’re going to get home after the final whistle.”
