Man, 20, fighting for life after cycling accident in Bootle

A man is fighting for his life after the bike he was riding crashed into a lamppost in Bootle.

Just after 6.25pm ​​this evening (May 10), a red dirt bike was reported to have crashed on Washington Parade. The man who had been on the bike then put the bike behind a silver Iveco van which was driven away.




The injured man, aged in his 20s, then entered a house on Pembroke Road and presented himself at hospital a short time later. He is being treated for his injuries and at this stage his condition is described as critical.

Forensic and collision investigation units could be seen on Merton Road and Washington Parade where there was a huge police presence. A section of the Washington parade remains closed while investigations at the scene continue and CCTV opportunities in the area are explored.

Sergeant Martin Mayne, of Merseyside Police, appealed for witnesses to come forward. He said: “We want to hear from anyone who was at Washington Parade at around 6.25pm ​​this evening and saw any part of this incident or caught anything on their dash cam that could help with our enquiries.

“If you saw the bike traveling in the area shortly before or the van leaving the scene, please get in touch and help us piece together exactly what happened.

“If you live in the area, please review your CCTV in case anything was captured that could assist the investigation. Every piece of information, no matter how small, could help us with our ongoing enquiries.”
