Liverpool fans hope Dominik Szoboszlai’s ’embarrassing’ comments were ‘lost in translation’

Liverpool fans have expressed their displeasure after Dominik Szoboszlai’s mixed finish to the season at Anfield.

The Hungarian star has made a bright start on Merseyside with some good performances in the opening months of the campaign after making the move from RB Leipzig. The 23-year-old was a marquee addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side last summer as part of a sweeping midfield overhaul.

However, a hamstring injury picked up in January halted his progress and he only managed a full 90 minutes on his return against Nottingham Forest in February. Now the former Bundesliga prospect has looked back on his first campaign in England, admitting he hopes to improve his results next season.

However, Szoboszlai’s comments to the Hungarian Football Association seemed to leave some supporters angry. Preparing to lead his country at Euro 2024, he remarked: “I’ve just finished a difficult season, but as this was my first in the Premier League, I’m not unhappy with my performance, although I certainly want to I have a better season. season next time

“I’m usually a positive thinker so it didn’t bother me that I played a smaller role at Liverpool at the end of the season,” he said, before making a comment that left some Reds fans unhappy, adding: “At least the chance of injury was lower and I could focus earlier on the European Championship”.

Taking to social media, one angry Liverpool fan said: “I hope that was mistranslated because that statement is absolutely embarrassing if that’s what he actually said,” while another said: “We were competing for four trophies and this guy focused on the euro?”

Dominik Szoboszlai struggled to live up to his early season form in the second half of 2023-24

One Kopite then gave his own assessment of Szoboszlai’s first campaign at Anfield, saying: “A great start but it kind of showed where his head was the second half of the season,” as one fan claimed: “Definitely it was wrong. Everyone needs to calm down,” and another added: “You mistranslated or just misunderstood what he said guys.”
