Why Max Aarons could now help Leeds United win five-club chase for ‘outstanding’ right-back.

Max Aarons was a huge source of frustration for Leeds United supporters and the club itself last summer when a deal for the right-back fell through.

Leeds believed they were pulling off something of a coup to land the right-back from Norwich, setting up a reunion between Aarons and manager Daniel Farke, but at the last minute he opted to join Bournemouth.

Phil Hay reported that Leeds were confident they had secured a £12m deal for Aarons. But that Bournemouth moved to sign him at the last minute and the Premier League powerhouse did a deal.

He has been Bournemouth’s first choice ever since, but in a surprise twist it could now be Aarons who helps Leeds seal a deal for a new right-back target, with the Whites battling it out with five other clubs in this summer.

Leeds want the Sunderland defender but face strong competition

Reports claim Leeds are one of five clubs in the running to sign 22-year-old Sunderland defender Trai Hume, who has been described as “outstanding” by his Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill .

However, there is plenty of competition. Aston Villa, Napoli, Leicester and Bournemouth are also said to be looking at Hume, but chances are Bournemouth are best placed to land Hume at the moment.

The Cherries have often dipped into the Championship for new signings. So do Leeds, with Andoni Iraola’s side signing both Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra, while also wanting Crysencio Summerville.

Why right-back Aarons could help Leeds now sign Trai Hume

Aston Villa have Matty Cash and Ezri Konsa and while Cash is a target for Milan, you’d imagine Hume would struggle to start for Unai Emery’s men. Same with Napoli, considering how big a club it is.

At Leicester, Hume probably has the chance to play Premier League football, but Ricardo Pereira would be first choice ahead of Hume given his ability to play as an inverted defender which suits Leicester perfectly.

Bournemouth are Leeds’ biggest rivals for Hume’s signature, but Aarons’ presence at The Vitality could tell Hume that once again his playing time could be limited and a move to Elland Road is the most good choice.
