Smoke billows from the Tally-Ho pub in Finchley as 40 firefighters battle the blaze

An investigation has been launched after forty firefighters battled a blaze at a north London pub.

Flames were shooting from the first floor of the TallyHo pub on the High Road in North Finchley as plumes of smoke rose into the air.

Six fire engines were at the scene, while police and paramedics attended, after the alarm was raised just after 11am on Thursday.

Part of the first and second floors and the roof of the building were damaged.

One person was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews for smoke inhalation.

No other injuries were reported.

A statement from London Fire Service said: “The fire has been brought under control by firefighters but some crews will remain at the scene to bring it down.

“Road closures remain in place and the public is asked to continue to avoid the area.

“999 Brigade control officers received 13 calls about the fire.

The brigade was called at 11.05am and the fire was brought under control by 12.22pm.”

Crews from Finchley, Hendon, West Hampstead, Barnet and Kentish Town fire stations are at the scene, along with a 32m turnstile from Paddington Fire Station.

The fire department statement added: “The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
