How Manchester United’s attitude could lead to Newcastle United losing Yankuba Minteh

Newcastle United need to sell this month and one of the players they are willing to let go has an admirer.

The Magpies must move someone before June 30 to appease the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, but it remains unclear who will leave.

In a perfect world Newcastle United will get rid of someone who is no longer a key player for Eddie Howe but could still command a decent transfer fee such as Miguel Almiron or Callum Wilson. The only thing they won’t do is sell Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak, despite the massive amount of money they would fetch.

The alternative is to take advantage of a youngster who has never kicked a ball for Newcastle United but could develop into a top-flight winger.

Newcastle are willing to sell Yankuba Minteh

The man in question is Yankuba Minteh, who the Magpies are reluctant to sell this summer as they aim to stay on the right side of the PSR.

They will listen to offers for the 19-year-old, who is set to get a chance in pre-season after a spectacular campaign on loan at Feyenoord.

Minteh is attracting interest, which is why Toon officials will at least consider any offers that come their way for the winger, who they value at £40m, according to the Telegraph.

Borussia Dortmund are interested in Minteh

Now a suitor has emerged in Germany, with Borussia Dortmund linked.

That’s according to Sky Germany journalist Patrick Berger, who claims Minteh is one of three players on Dortmund’s radar heading into the summer transfer window. The other two who are listed are midfielder Jerdy Schouten and defender Ferdi Kadıoğlu.

As for Minteh, Berger adds that the Gambia international is a player Dortmund will consider if they fail to sign Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho permanently, or if Karim Adeyemi or Donyell Malen leave the Bundesliga club.

How Man United can affect Newcastle’s transfer decision

That means Minteh’s future at Newcastle could depend on Manchester United.

Sancho spent the second half of the season on loan at Dortmund and looked reborn, but a permanent move back is thought to be unlikely due to the Red Devils’ £40m asking price.

That could force Dortmund to look elsewhere for a winger, and they have reportedly lined up Minteh as a possible alternative.

In short, Man United could force Newcastle to lose Minteh, which would be a shame considering how much potential he has. To sell it would be hugely disappointing, having only bought it last year for around £6m.

The only saving grace is that if Dortmund won’t pay £40m for Sancho, then they won’t pay £40m for Minteh, which is what Newcastle are looking for.
