Leeds United starlet Archie Gray has accepted Spurs’ offer in 2023

Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray was the subject of a bid from Tottenham Hotspur before signing his professional contract last year, The Athletic said.

Leeds United saw academy starlet Gray become a crucial player in the 203/24 season.

The teenage midfielder has long been seen as a star for the future, but relegation to the Championship opened the door for the 18-year-old to break into Daniel Farke’s side.

Overall, the Durham-born prospect played 52 times last season, contributing one goal and two assists. He started in his natural midfield role but ended up spending much of the campaign at right-back.

Unsurprisingly, such success for the Leeds United prospect has caught the eye.

Tottenham Hotspur are among those who have been linked and The Athletic now provide details of their long-standing admiration. Spurs are said to have made an offer to Gray just before he penned a professional contract with the Whites in March 2023.

The Premier League club remain strong admirers of Gray though. They have pursued him “extensively” but there will be competition to sign him.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

A summer saga awaits you

Gray is bound to attract firm interest and given Spurs’ long-standing admirers, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them make another move after falling short at the start of 2023.

It’s no secret that Leeds United need to sell players this summer and Gray is their most valuable asset. Cashing in on their teenage prospect would put a big dent in the £190m transfer fees they have to pay.

One thing is certain, if there is even a chance of Gray leaving, Spurs won’t be the only ones keen.

Top clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have expressed interest, while a number of Premier League sides are also admirers of the Whites’ prospect.

Next summer

Aside from the likely Grey’s saga, much of the focus will be on sales this summer.

Fabrizio Romano said on Monday that Brighton had made initial contact to begin talks over a possible deal for winger Crysencio Summerville. The likes of Georginio Rutter, Willy Gnonto and others could also attract high-profile interest.

Farke will be determined to strengthen where possible, but the impact on the promotion rate will be strong. A lot of the focus could be on early departures, then when there’s been a bump in outstanding rates, maybe then the focus can turn to additions.

It’s sure to be a busy summer, and Gray’s name will be at the center of speculation throughout.
