Plan 154 new homes in fields on edge of Leicestershire village

A developer is eyeing a field on the edge of a Leicestershire village for his next project. Jelson has submitted a planning application to Blaby District Council for 154 homes on the outskirts of Huncote.

It would be a “logical extension” of the company’s Two Oaks development on Narborough Road in the village, Jelson said. If approved, the new homes would be built on farmland owned by the applicant south of Ratcliffe Drive, Peers Way and Preston Way, planning documents show.

There would be seven one-bed properties, 39 two-bed houses, 13 two-bed bungalows, 62 three-bed houses and 33 four-bed houses. About 39 of the new homes would be classed as “affordable” housing, the developer added.

Most homes will have at least two parking spaces, Jelson said. “Where feasible”, the three- and four-bedroom properties would have a single garage space as well as two parking spaces, according to the company. The larger four-bed homes are proposed to have a double garage plus at least two parking spaces.

There would be two access points to the site. One would be off Peers Way, while the other would be off Preston Way, planning documents say.

The developer added that it plans to maintain the public right-of-way that currently runs through the land. It also proposes green spaces, including orchards, on the southern and eastern edges of the site, as well as tree planting, a central square and areas of meadow meadow, according to its application.

Huncote has a “good range of services”, the claimant claimed. These include a primary school, a convenience store and pub, a post office and two churches which are “within walking and cycling distance of the site”, it added.
