St Nectan’s Glen, Nr Tintagel – Cornwall

Just up the coast from windswept, romantic and rugged Tintagel Castle, leave Arthur, Tristan and Isolde behind and travel through temperate rainforest and Atlantic forests instead. Here nature, rather than history, has shaped one of Cornwall’s most unspoilt hidden corners. Voted an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, named a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because of its rare plant specimens, this is the sacred spiritual site of St Nectan’s Glen.

Here the Trevillet River cut its way through the Late Devonian slate, created a magnificent 60 foot waterfall and cut a hole through the kieve (original basin). Revered as a sacred place, ribbons, crystals, photographs, inscriptions, prayers and other devotions now adorn the foliage and rock walls near the waterfall, where the water now cascades through the beautiful valley. The waterfall is accessible via the forest road which is about a mile long and is said to have healing properties.

At the entrance you’ll also find a cafe, shop, and there’s a yoga studio on site that regularly hosts retreats, plus St Nectan’s Glen also offers intimate weddings, including breakfast and elopement ceremonies.

Open seven days a week, dogs welcome with leashes.
