Person hit by train on EMR line leads to trip interruption – recap

One person was hit by a train this morning, East Midlands Railway (EMR) said. It said lines were closed after the incident between Bedford and Luton and reopened at around 11am.

However, disruption continued for several hours in and out of London St Pancras International as a result. The London to Nottingham line was affected, trains running through Market Harborough and Leicester were delayed.




EMR said at the time that two of its four lines were closed.

All lines are now open but delays remain

The latest update from EMR stated: “Lines are now open between Bedford and Luton. Please note that the journey may still be delayed by up to 60 minutes and there may be changes to the delay notices. Please check your journey before travelling’.

Trains heading north were also affected

Trains heading north are also delayed due to line closures. The online live departures board for Leicester shows that the 9.09 to Sheffield is still delayed, while the 9.20 to Nottingham is not expected to arrive in Leicester until around 10.12.

9.40 to Sheffield is scheduled to Leicester at 10.16. Eastbound and westbound trains to Birmingham and Stansted are not affected in the same way, although the 9.14am to Stansted has not yet arrived.

Reopening the lines

In an update at around 9.20am, the rail company said: “2 of the 4 lines are now open between Bedford and Luton. There will be significant service disruptions and delays until all 4 lines are open. Please check your trip before you travel”.
