Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca is joining Real Betis on a permanent basis in a deal that appears to have bypassed his active loan clause.

Leeds have a lot going for them at the start of the summer transfer window, both in terms of inbound and outbound transfers.

The lingering headaches of players with loan clauses returning is something that needs to be ended early, and that seems to be the case with Marc Roca.

Marc Roca’s definitive transfer to Real Betis is moving forward

Reports in Spain were quite frequent on Tuesday, saying that Roca was closing in on leaving Elland Road for good.

The latest comes from Estadio Deportivo, an outlet based in Sevilla, home to Real Betis, who claim a deal is in place for Roca to re-sign for Betis.

Happy to have Aaronson back?

They share that Leeds and Betis are “finalizing” the deal for Roca to return to La Liga permanently despite his active loan clause.

A four-year contract has been agreed for the player and details of the transfer fee have now emerged from this report as well, as Betis look set to pay a reduced fee from the buyout option in his contract.

Roca had a €12m (£10.15m) release clause in his contract and although the exact fee here is not disclosed, it is less than that amount, suggesting it is less than the £10m pounds paid by Leeds to sign him in 2022.

A lower fee isn’t ideal, but it shouldn’t hurt the PSR for Leeds

Roca should have been someone we could get a higher fee for, but it seems we’re happy to let him go right now.

How much we get for him remains to be seen, but less than £10.15m is still a solid sum for a Championship club.

We are not in a perfect financial position just because we are in the EFL but a sale like this really helps us.

Given the amortization of Roca’s £10m income over four years, anything above £5m is PSR profit.
