Excessive heat warning: Swampscott to open cooling centers, loan AC

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Swampscott has opened cooling centers and is offering a limited number of air conditioners for loan as this week’s heat dome will send temperatures near 100 degrees.

The Senior Center and Swampscott Public Library will be open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during normal business hours for those who need air conditioning. The cooling centers will be closed Wednesday for the Juneteenth holiday, but residents in need are invited to come to the Swampscott Police Department between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

A limited number of portable air conditioners are available to borrow from the Library at 781-596-8867 or the Fire Department at 781-595-4040.

Swampscott residents are asked to check on neighbors, friends and family who have medical conditions and are advised to stay hydrated.
