Fundraising for Coventry schoolboy Keaton Slater reaches incredible £42,000

A fundraiser for a much-loved Coventry boy who was killed in a ‘hit and run’ has reached a staggering £42,000. Keaton Slater died after being hit by a BMW on Radford Road.

Young Keaton, who went to Cardinal Newman Catholic School, was killed as he crossed Radford Road near Aldi. He suffered catastrophic injuries and died at the scene, West Midlands Police said.

The donations have piled in as the city pulls together following the tragic events that unfolded on Friday (June 14). More than 2,800 people contributed to the fundraising effort, which has now reached £42,031.

Organizer John McDevitt said: “It shows how the community both near and far has been affected by this terrible incident, people feel some of the pain his family is going through and want to help the family at this most traumatic time.”

Purdys Pet Shop, on Cheveral Avenue in Radford, also raised funds in memory of Coventry City fan Keaton, who was remembered for being “beautiful inside and out”. Customers were asked to make a small donation which will be added to the funds already raised on JustGiving.

“Thank you to all our customers, as well as the residents of Radford, for coming together to donate collectively in his memory. We’ve proven time and time again why we’re lucky to have such outstanding customers, but you’ve all stepped up and it’s lovely at such an emotional time to see the community come together,” they said on Facebook.

Former Coventry City star James Maddison shared a heartwarming message with young Keaton’s family yesterday (June 17). He urged people to help their loved ones “when they need us the most”.

Maddison told X: “It brought tears to my eyes to read about the death of this young man in my home town of Coventry. The Keaton Family I am so sorry for your loss, if there is anything I can do to help please contact me anytime you feel like it. I send my love to all of Keaton’s family and friends.”

He added: “I’m sure they would appreciate anything and everything at this difficult time. As a father, I can’t even begin to imagine what they are going through, so let’s try to come together to help Keaton’s family when they need us the most.”
