Manchester United now consider Amad “one of the most important members of their squad” for the future, according to reports.

The Old Trafford club signed Amad from Atalanta in 2020 for a fee of £37m. However, he only started three games in heavily rotated sides in his first three years at the club as United loaned him to Rangers in January 2022 and Sunderland for the 2022–23 season.

The 21-year-old was set to head for another loan spell for the 2023-24 season until a pre-season injury prevented him from leaving. After making a mid-season return to fitness, the youngster was named in all 22 matchday squads in the second half of the campaign.

Next season, however, the talented striker may have a much bigger role to play at the Manchester club.

Amad is among the young players Manchester United will build on

According to a report from Manchester Evening News, Amad is now grouped with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund. Together, they are set to form a young quartet to lead United’s new team.

Glimpses of Amad’s brilliance were there for all to see, especially towards the end of last season. Among them was his stunning 121st-minute winner in the FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool in March – a goal that earned him cult status with the club’s global following.

With Antony consistently failing to impress and United too strapped for funds to bring in a new right-back, Amad has a realistic chance of making his position his own.

The Ivory Coast international still has a year left on his current contract with United, albeit with an option to extend by an additional year. That’s plenty of time to deliver and cement his name in the starting line-up for years to come.
