James Maddison’s tears for the Coventry family of tragic hit-and-run victim Keaton Slater

James Maddison from Coventry has spoken of his tears for the family of tragic hit-and-run victim Keaton Slater. The Tottenham Hotspur star midfielder took to social media to share his heartache for the 12-year-old’s family.

The schoolboy was killed when he was hit by a BMW on Radford Road at around 4.30pm on Friday (June 14). A nationwide manhunt is underway for Dolars Aleksanders, who is wanted on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Maddison, a former pupil at Caludon Castle School, explained how the young man’s tragic loss left him in tears. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, he also reached out to Keaton’s heartbroken family.

He posted: “Bringing tears to my eyes to read about the death of this young man in my home town of Coventry. Keaton’s family, I am so sorry for your loss.

“If there is anything I can do to help, please reach out whenever you feel like it. Sending my love to all of Keaton’s family and friends. Rest in peace young man.”

He is the latest to pay tribute to the young man as the city continues to mourn his tragic loss. He was a huge Sky Blues fan and Coventry City FC also sent a heartfelt message to his family.

They have also committed to hosting their own tribute to the schoolboy. The message read: “The city of Coventry is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of young supporter Keaton Slater.

“Keaton was a great supporter of Coventry City and the thoughts and condolences of everyone at Coventry City Football Club and the entire Sky Blue community are with Keaton’s family and friends at this terrible time for them.

“The Sky Blues will be in touch with Keaton’s family to support and help them remember and pay tribute to Keaton.”

Police inquiries continue to trace Aleksanders and Superintendent Paul Joyce has issued a warning to anyone who could help hide him. “Anyone who knowingly harbors someone for such an offense will be committing offenses themselves and so I cannot stress enough the importance of doing so.”

He added: “It’s the most tragic set of circumstances you can imagine. We are currently supporting the family with specially trained officers, there is a huge investigation team being set up to try and find those responsible and we can’t thank the public enough so far for their co-operation in trying to locate them. who are responsible.”

A West Midlands Police spokesman added: “If you have seen Aleksanders or know where he is, please do not approach him but call 999 immediately, quoting log 3407 of June 14.”
