The Route 6 bridge in Bradford County is expected to be closed for months

According to PennDOT, Route 6 is closed between Route 4017 (Leona Road) and Route 3034 (Mud Creek Road) in Troy Township.

On June 12, a tractor-trailer carrying an empty steel tank struck several steel bridge members.

As a result, the bridge has been closed and a thorough inspection is currently underway, after which a repair plan will be developed, PennDOT said.

“We know that Route 6 is a critical highway for the people of Bradford County and the region, and the full reopening of this road is as important to PennDOT and Governor Shapiro as it was to I-95 in Philadelphia,” said PennDOT Secretary, Mike Carroll. “We are working to have this bridge restored and Route 6 reopened as quickly as possible.”

The bridge is currently anticipated to be closed until August as repairs are completed.

Route 6 remains closed in both directions between Route 4017 (Leona Road) and Route 3034 (Mud Creek Road), Troy Township.

Passenger vehicles will use Leona Road, Route 4014 (Springfield Road) and Route 14.

Large trucks and commercial vehicles will use Berwick Turnpike (Route 4013), Springfield Road and Route 14.

“We will move the project forward as quickly as possible,” said Eric High Executive PennDOT District 3. “Our goal is to have it completed and reopened by the end of August, but that is very variable at this point and depends on when that we can provide the necessary materials to make the repairs.”

The preliminary estimate to repair the bridge is between $1 million and $2 million. PennDOT secured emergency funds to pay for the repairs. The investigation into how the bridge was hit is ongoing.
